SwissGlobal sponsors lawyers conference: “Women as leaders in the law”
SwissGlobal sponsored the 7th Future of Lawyers conference in Geneva on 25 January 2018. This networking event was organised by the Foreign Lawyers Section of the Geneva Bar Association. The motto for this year was “Women as leaders in the law”. Internationally active lawyers along with other experts shared their experiences and contributions on the subject of promoting women in management roles. Matthias Trümpy (CEO) and Eduard van Grunsven (Regional Director Western Switzerland/Benelux) participated on behalf of SwissGlobal.
SwissGlobal industry partner of the ZHAW
SwissGlobal has been an industry partner of the IUED Institute of Translation and Interpreting at the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences since January 2018. The collaboration focuses primarily on support for young translators and linguists. We look forward to a long-term and fruitful partnership and the stimulating exchange of ongoing developments as well as industry knowledge centring on translation practice.

SwissGlobal now a member of EAMT
SwissGlobal became a member of the EAMT (European Association for Machine Translation), a Swiss non-profit organisation, in January 2018. The EAMT has been supporting the ever-growing community of researchers, developers and users of machine translation since 1991. The EAMT is the European branch of the IAMT (International Association for Machine Translation). Together, they organise workshops and conferences on a regular basis. SwissGlobal is looking forward to an exciting and fruitful collaboration.
Additions to the SwissGlobal sales team and the opening of our office in Geneva herald the start of a new year
SwissGlobal is thrilled to welcome Iris Strauss and Eduard van Grunsven to its team!

Iris Strauss will become Chief Sales & Marketing Officer on 1 January 2018 and will also be the newest member of the SwissGlobal Executive Board. With her many years of proven industry and management experience, Iris is the perfect choice to lead our sales and marketing division. Our clients will benefit from having another expert, pragmatic and engaging contact person on hand.

Eduard van Grunsven is now our Regional Director Western Switzerland/Benelux. A long-time resident of Geneva, Eduard possesses years of sales experience both within and beyond our sector and is thus ideally equipped to provide support for our international clients in western Switzerland and the Benelux region. We are delighted to have another polyglot and communicative employee on board.

We are opening our first branch office outside of Baden – at one of the top addresses in the centre of Geneva! Our clients will have a permanent SwissGlobal contact person on site in the shape of Eduard van Grunsven. Since November 2017, SwissGlobal has been a member of the British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, an independent not-for-profit organisation with over 500 members promoting bilateral business relations between Switzerland and the UK.
International Translation Day
The 71st United Nations General Assembly officially declared 30 September to be International Translation Day. This day is dedicated to professional translators, interpreters and terminologists all over the world and is celebrated on the feast of St. Jerome, the forefather and patron saint of translators. This year’s theme is Translation and Diversity.

SwissGlobal has been an active member of the Zurich Airport Region – Economic Network and Location Development association since April 2017. The association’s primary goal is to foster the strengths of this dynamic, number one business location in the airport region for everyone's benefit. To accomplish this, the economic network connects more than 450 decision-makers from the world of business and politics and brings together over 300 companies, 10 cities and municipalities, as well as 12 associations under one umbrella.
SwissGlobal a sponsor of Translators without Borders
SwissGlobal has been a sponsor of Translator without Borders since May 2017. The independent non-profit organization active worldwide has been operating in crisis zones for more than 20 years and supports humanitarian aid organizations by providing translations. Day after day, more than 3,000 volunteer native-tongue translators and interpreters help overcome language barriers in order to save lives. In addition to linguistic know-how, it is intercultural understanding that plays a decisive role in the success of the translations.
SwissGlobal at the EUATC conference in Berlin
From 20-21 April, SwissGlobal will participate in the 12th annual conference of the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies (EUATC) in Berlin. The EUATC is an umbrella body for national associations of translation companies throughout Europe, without being limited to the EU. The EUATC provides a united voice for language services companies and promotes the highest standards of quality and business practice. This year's conferences is a key opportunity to hear about the latest trends in the fast moving LSP market environment and to meet the newest providers in person. Our COO, Mark Cheetham, will be representing SwissGlobal at the EUATC conference.
SwissGlobal at the GALA conference 2017 in Amsterdam
SwissGlobal participated in the international GALA conference held in Amsterdam from 26-29 March 2017. The Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) is a global, non-profit trade association for the language industry and its annual conferences provide an excellent networking platform. This year’s conference focused on the fundamental principles, strategies, and technologies – the “new basics” – that make for successful, sustainable organizations in today’s global language industry. Our Head of Quality Management, Christine Kamer Diehl, represented SwissGlobal at the GALA conference.
SDL: Interview with SwissGlobal
Mark Cheetham, our COO, and Marie-Odile Domzalski, a freelance translator for the Swiss market, were interviewed for the SDL TranslationZoneBlog on 22 March 2017. The two have enjoyed a successful collaboration for the past five years and talked to Fiona Merwood, Senior Marketing Executive at SDL, about challenges, technological solutions, and common experiences in the translation sector. SDL has been our technology partner for translation software since the foundation of SwissGlobal.
SwissGlobal at the KMU SWISS FORUM
SwissGlobal participated in the KMU SWISS FORUM held at the Congress- and Business Center Trafo in Baden on 23 March 2017. This networking platform was created 15 years ago, and this year’s motto was “Change – the steady constant”. Successful individuals from various sectors – including the president of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leuthard, and actor Anatole Taubmann – shared their experiences and thoughts on the topic, with Hugo Bigi acting as moderator. Our CEO, Matthias Trümpy, and Head of Quality Management, Christine Kamer Diehl, represented SwissGlobal at the KMU SWISS FORUM.
SwissGlobal at the Swiss Digital Finance Conference
On March 23 2017, SwissGlobal participated in the 5th Swiss Digital Finance Conference in Rotkreuz. This annual event is hosted by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and offers a platform to present and discuss trends and new technologies in the financial sector. Some of this year's main topics were digital transformation, new payment systems, and regulatory aspects. In addition to its other vertical markets, SwissGlobal specialises in providing language services for the financial sector and is always keen to gain a first-hand look at the latest industry developments. Our COO, Mark Cheetham, represented SwissGlobal at the conference.
SwissGlobal at CIUTI FORUM 2017
The topic for this year’s forum was Short- and Longterm Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Language Professions. Our Head of Quality Management, Christine Kamer Diehl, represented SwissGlobal as a keynote speaker.

CEO Trümpy sees an opening for SwissGlobal in regulated industries, such as financial, legal, and pharmaceutical, which tend to have high quality and confidentiality expectations.
